Rose Petals

Have you ever stopped,

Seeing the abnormal bright color

In the corner of your eye,

On this mid February day?

When the earth slept dead

Under a blanket of snow,

When all day you'd pondered

Of the world in uproar.

Your mind is busy,

Your heart in unrest.

Did you stop, catching that color

Sitting in the center of the table

An array of flowers,

Colors all affray.

Your dear friend had sent them your way,

For no particular reason.

But there they stood,

Catching the only ray of sun

That ventured into the house that day.

Did you stop to smell them?

The most subtle, sweet smell found.

A fragrance that remains untouched

By the trouble of the world.

Did you notice that one rose is dying?

Its head droops,

Its color remains.

When you hung it to dry,

Did you feel it?

Rose Petals

The softest silk, smooth and petite.

Then how your heart dwelt

On that beauty all day,

That when you went to bed,

You carried the fallen petals in your palm.

And now as you slumber,

The rose petals rest on that table by your bed.

And soften your dreams, with their fragrance so sweet.

Thank God for rose petals.
